Review: The Finishing School

The Finishing School
The Finishing School by Joanna Goodman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sometimes a book delivers exactly what you want when you want it. The Finishing School did just that for me so I’m giving it—and Joanna Goodman—5 stars for extraordinary timing and sensational storytelling. I read a lot of nonfiction–mostly nonfiction. Of course, I absolutely love it–I love to learn, I love to stretch, I love to challenge my thinking, my ways, and my worldview. But all that “heft” gets tedious at times. Every now and then, I just wanna escape. I want to jump out of our world and jump into another. The Finishing School, set in beloved Switzerland, offers a wonderful weekend escape. I couldn’t put it down. Engaging characters, high-society, teenage troubles, secrets galore, an exquisite beauty, and a mystery to solve–all the components of female escapism at its best. The Finishing School is confection—pure confection, much like I imagine, the products available at the author’s Canadian linen company, Au Lit Fine Linens. You GO, Joanna Goodman, GO! Bring us more luscious delights!
